# Should my website have a page for every town I work in?

**Summary:** Only for places you really serve and can say something specific about. A page for each municipality you cover, such as Sintra, Cascais or Oeiras, helps when it carries real local content: the work you have done there, the parishes covered, how the service differs, local reviews and questions. Pages that repeat the same text with the town name swapped are what Google calls doorway pages, and they can drag down the whole site. For most small businesses, three to six strong area pages beat thirty thin ones.

## What makes an area page worth having

- **Proof**: work done there, with photos or a case study, and reviews from
  local customers.
- **Specifics**: the parishes or towns covered, travel or delivery details, and
anything that changes locally, such as older buildings, parking or the tourist
  season.
- **Local questions** answered in the words customers use.
- **A clear way to get in touch**, with the same phone number as everywhere
  else.

## Signs a page is a doorway

- The text is the same as the other area pages apart from the place name.
- The page exists for a place you do not actually serve.
- Visitors are sent to the same contact form with nothing they could not have
  read on the home page.

## How many

Start with the municipalities that bring in most of your work. A renovation
business around Sintra might need Sintra, Cascais, Oeiras and Amadora, each with
a project to show, before adding anything smaller.
[ConsertoVital](/work/conserto), in the portfolio, works that way.
