What is different about Germany
German customers read before they call. For a trade business that means product detail, materials, certifications, example prices and a clear way to request a quote. German law also makes the legal side of a website unusually expensive to get wrong, because competitors and associations can send an Abmahnung for a missing Impressum detail or a font loaded from the wrong server.
How that changes the build
Legal hygiene is part of the build rather than an afterthought: Impressum, privacy policy, consent and self-hosted fonts go in before launch, and we check old sites for leftovers such as the retired EU dispute platform link. Copy is written in German for German customers, with an English version where the business has international visitors.
Local search
Google dominates search in Germany, and local intent is strong: people search for the product plus the town, such as windows in Balingen. Pages need to cover each product line and service area properly, with the detail German buyers expect, backed by a well-kept Google Business Profile and genuine reviews.

§ 5 DDG (Impressum)
Since May 2024 the Digitale-Dienste-Gesetz has replaced the old TMG, but the duty is the same: a complete Impressum that is easy to find from every page. A missing or wrong Impressum is a classic trigger for an Abmahnung.
DSGVO and § 25 TDDDG
Consent before any non-essential cookie or tracker. Since a Munich court ruled against a site that loaded Google Fonts from Google servers in 2022, fonts and scripts should be served from your own domain.
BFSG
The Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz has applied since 28 June 2025 to online shops and booking services for consumers. Micro-enterprises providing services are exempt, but an accessible site is still the better site.
PAngV
Prices shown to consumers must be total prices including VAT. That matters for shops and for trade sites that publish example prices.
§ 36 VSBG
Businesses with more than ten employees must say whether they take part in consumer dispute resolution. The old link to the EU online dispute platform is a different matter: the platform closed in July 2025 and that link should now be removed.
Hosting in EU regions, with fonts, scripts and images served from the site itself to keep DSGVO exposure low.
